Project Name: Banta Cares Street Art

 

Dates for Project: February 17, 2020 - May 31, 2021

 

Description: Two street murals will be designed by students at Parkview and Central Elementary Schools. The selected artist will meet with students the week of February 17, 2020 at each school to give them guidance and inspiration to implement the project. 

Artist will also be responsible for implementing the project Including painting a design in each of the two intersections.  

 

Scope of Project:

Dimension: Approximately 12‘ x 12‘ to 15‘ x 15 (two different designs)

 

Location: in Valparaiso, IN at Garfield and Chicago (Parkview design) and Erie and Locust Central design) in the intersection of the street between two crosswalks. 

 

Theme: Banta Cares Campaign; focusing on safety, infrastructure, environmental and social aspects. (children will be challenged to problem solve ways to address these four issues).

The artist and VCC will help Banta Members choose the winning design at their March 10, 2020 meeting. 

 

Project Budget: $5,000 

$1,000 paint and other painting supplies.

$4,000 paid to the artist in two installments ($3,500 at the completion of both Murals in 2020 and final payment $500 after the touch-up/repaint in 2021.)

 

Requirements:

The artist(s) is required to consult with and guide school-aged children to design a street mural within theme defined by Banta Center. Artist(s) must be over the age of 18 with the experience  and capacity necessary to implement the large-scale paintings project in street intersections. 

As part of the project the artist agrees to touch-up or repaint the designs in the spring of 2021.
